Hermann, Missouri

This is the Highway 19 crossing of the Missouri River at Hermann, Missouri. The old bridge is in the front, but if you look closely there is a brand spankin' new bridge behind it. I am not sure what the fate of the old bridge will be.

I urge you to get out and take photos of old bridges and buildings. I see some many of them being destroyed to make room for the new and better as land space becomes more valuable and limited.

Man that looks cold! But that sky is so blue and crisp! Great shot.

The old Hwy 19 bridge at Hermann will be dismantled over the next few months. Its condition is too poor for it to be rehabbed for another use, so it has to go. Discovery Channel had expressed some interest in doing a show on the bridge removal, but I don't know if that was approved.

The only buildings in jeopardy are the ones on the South riverbank between the bridge and the county courthouse to the East, which might be removed for a proposed courthouse expansion. Hermann is serious about preservation, so the many historic buildings in town are mostly well-protected.

Amen, Mike. It saddens me how little thought is collectively given to pieces of infrastructure that have served us so well for so long.

Beautiful shot.
