Walking Sticks

We recently stopped at one of those roadside historical markers in Eastern Colorado that say you can see the wagon wheel ruts of the Santa Fe Trail. Well we never did see the ruts but there were walking sticks all over.

It must have been mating season because the ground was teaming with them. Never seen anything like it.

Walking sticks are new to me --- didn't see them in Arizona. In the past week I have taken photos of a walking stick and a walking leaf. Hmmmm, I'll bet I could have some fun Photoshopping those 2 shots! Maybe I'll put them up on this week's Thematic Photographic close up theme.

Come join us! You have terrific macros!

I would have loved seeing these in person. Don't think I ever have.
Really neat.

Walking sticks are one of my favorite types of animal. I'm sure that you've seen plenty in your treks in the Ozarks (like I have). They can get very large there. One time my wife and I counted more than 150 dead on about the last 1/4 mile of a trail (and that was only after we finally started counting -- somewhat morbidly).

Cool shot, Mike. It's hard to imagine growing up in a place where these guys don't show up on the front porch from time to time.
